Women v Tottenham Hotspur - All You Need To Know

West Ham United Women v Tottenham Hotspur
Barclays Women’s Super League, Chigwell Construction Stadium, Saturday 27 May, 2.30pm BST

West Ham United Women will conclude their 2022/23 Barclays Women's Super League campaign with a London derby as Tottenham Hotspur make the trip to east London.

Paul Konchesky's Irons will welcome Spurs to Chigwell Construction Stadium on Saturday 27 May, with the home side looking to end the season with a fantastic week of results after beating Leicester City 2-1 at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

Tottenham, meanwhile, ended a run of five league matches without a win with a 4-1 demolition of Reading at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend.

Only one place and three points separate the Hammers and Spurs, and Saturday's visitors know a win over West Ham would see them jump above the hosts in the final Barclays WSL standings.

Team News…

Jess Ziu remains the only long-term absentee for West Ham United Women. The Republic of Ireland international is continuing her rehabilitation from an ACL injury sustained against London City Lionesses in October.

Abbey-Leigh Stringer also remains a doubt for the season finale.

Amber Tysiak has impressed since making her first start versus Chelsea last Wednesday and the January signing could be in line for a third successive place in the starting XI on Saturday.

Manager Paul Konchesky could keep faith with the same team secured a huge three points against Leicester City last time out, which would mean the likes of Anouk Denton, Amalie Thestrup and Emma Snerle retain their places.

The Opposition

It has been an interesting season for Tottenham Hotspur.

After finishing fifth in 2021/22, Spurs have found themselves battling at the bottom of the Barclays Women’s Super League table rather than towards the top four.

A poor start to the campaign saw Tottenham right at the heart of the battle to stay in the WSL, although the Club have moved clear of the drop following a shrewd piece of business in the January window.

Record arrival Bethany England has been crucial to the upturn in performance, although her goals have still only brought one win in the last five league matches. Spurs run of nine straight defeats saw them dismiss Rehanne Skinner as manager in March too.

Now with Vicky Jepson at the helm, England’s brace in the 4-1 victory over Reading last time out took her to 12 goals in the WSL this season and, as it stands, the former Chelsea striker will be a key player as Spurs seek to push on next campaign.

Seeking to avenge the 2-0 defeat suffered at the hands of West Ham United at the end of last year, Tottenham travel to east London knowing the importance of a win to ending the season far better than it seemed to be heading.

While both sides’ WSL status is intact for 2023/24, the winner of this fixture is likely to beat the other into eighth place come the conclusion of this campaign.

Anything else?

The winner of the 2022/23 Women's Hammer of the Year award, as voted for by the Claret and Blue Army, will be revealed prior to kick-off on Saturday.

The winning Hammer will be presented with the trophy prior to the match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Midfielder Kate Longhurst has won the Women's Hammer of the Year award twice, being crowned in 2021/22 and 2019/20.

Former captain Gilly Flaherty is also a two-time winner, receiving the honour in the team's maiden professional campaign in 2018/19, and in 2020/21.
