Arsenal Women v West Ham United Women
Barclays Women’s Super League, Meadow Park, Sunday 30 October, 6:45pm GMT
West Ham United Women travel to Meadow Park to take on Barclays Women’s Super League leaders Arsenal on Sunday evening.
The game will be broadcast live on the Sky Sports cameras, with the Hammers going in search of their first ever points from a fixture against the Gunners.
Whilst it will certainly be a challenge, Paul Konchesky’s side come into the match with a run of back-to-back victories under their belt, having beaten Aston Villa and Reading in their previous two matches.
Here’s everything you need to know about the second London derby of the season.
Tickets
Tickets for the match at Meadow Park are available directly from the Arsenal website, and are priced at £8 for Adults and £4 for Seniors/Juniors.
How To Follow…
Sunday’s match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Premier League & Sky Sports Football, with coverage beginning at 6:30pm.
You can also follow the action across our social media channels. We will also have highlights and exclusive reactions for you after the final whistle.
Team News...
Konchesky will be unable to call upon Denmark international, Emma Snerle, for the trip into Hertfordshire, with the midfielder suffering a small injury in training before the women’s team’s win over Reading last weekend.
The boss will also be without Jess Ziu and Lucy Parker, who are continuing with their individual rehabilitation processes having both picked up injuries against London City Lionesses at the beginning of October.
Travel…
To get to Meadow Park from east London or Essex, the easiest way is to take the M25 westbound around the north section from Essex into Hertfordshire. If you are using a sat nav, the postcode is WD6 5AL.
Leave the M25 at Junction 23 and take the A1 towards London. Then leave the A1 at the first exit and take the A5135 towards Boreham Wood. Follow the A5135 towards the city centre, go straight over the first small roundabout and at the next large roundabout take the second exit onto Brook Road (signposted 'Boreham Wood Football Club'). Then take the next right onto Broughinge Road and the entrance is on the right. Park in the Brook Road pay car park.
If you are taking the train from central London, the nearest station is Elstree & Boreham Wood, which is on the Thameslink line from St Pancras to Luton and Bedford. Services run regularly before and after the game. From the station, it's less than a mile's walk, or you can take the 292 bus.
The Opposition...
Arsenal have made a superb start to the new Barclays Women’s Super League season as the team go in search of their first title since the 2018/19 season.
Jonas Eidevall’s side have been ruthless since the new season began, winning all four of their WSL matches to date. They are yet to concede a goal in the division so far with a makeshift backline that has seen Steph Catley move into centre-back alongside Lotte Wubben-Moy after injuries to Leah Williamson and Rafaelle.
In the UEFA Women’s Champions League, the Gunners qualified for the group stage after overcoming Ajax in a tricky second qualifying round match. After being drawn in a difficult group alongside Juventus, Lyon and Zurich, Eidevall’s side stunned Lyon 5-1 in their opening game. On Thursday evening, they beat Zurich 3-1 with a rotated side.
The Gunners have scored 22 goals in their eight matches in all competitions so far this season, with Beth Mead leading the way on five, whilst Stina Blackstenius and Vivianne Miedema.
Arsenal and West Ham United have quite a number of connections, with Halle Houssein and Lisa Evans joining the Hammers permanently this summer after successful loan spells last season, whilst Keira Flannery also swapped North London for East London this summer and has already made two appearances for the Club in all competitions at just 17-years-old.
West Ham United Women are back at Chigwell Construction Stadium on Sunday 6 November when they face Brighton & Hove Albion in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
