Grace Fisk was pleased that her header found the back of the net, as West Ham United Women rescued a draw against Manchester United on Wednesday evening.
The Irons had been resilient for long periods during the clash with the Red Devils, who sat in third place coming into the contest, but Ella Toone scored early into the second half to put the ahead.
But Fisk and her team-mates rose after the goal went in, creating a number of opportunities to get back into the game.
Just as it looked like a goal might not arrive, a corner fizzed in by Kateřina Svitková was glanced into the opposite corner by Fisk.
And the defender was pleased to grab her second goal of the campaign, and more importantly, secure a point against a good Manchester United team.
“It was a really important point for us,” Fisk told whufc.com
“I think it was an exciting game all the way through and both teams probably thought they could get something out of the game. I’m really happy to contribute, get a goal, and excited to get it in one of the last minutes.
“I said to the girls I don't really remember much about the goal. I know my area is the front post, so the ball was whipped in perfectly – straight onto my head and luckily it found then net!”
Fisk was returning to the West Ham United starting XI after missing the previous two matches against Chelsea and Birmingham City.
And the defender was pleased to be back on the pitch with her team-mates, who she heaped praise on at full-time.
“I think our response was something we can be really proud of. We haven't been that impressive our performances the last few weeks, so we really wanted to come here today and make sure we put on a good performance.
“I think when their goal went in, we kind of stepped it up a few gears and really pushed for that equaliser, which obviously we got in the end.
“This team is different to how it has been in other years – we’re all there fighting for each other, and we’re united. It’s a really nice place to be at West Ham at the moment, and obviously, getting points on the board helps as well.”
The Hammers picked up their 24th point of the campaign, a record since they joined the Barclays FA Women’s Super League back in 2018 – and Fisk says that she thinks the team could have had even more.
“Like I say, this team's different this year. It's going well, and we still think we could have way more points at this point in the season than we have already. This is the best season we've had so far, and it shows how far we’ve come as a team, she concluded.”
