Paul Konchesky was pleased with how his West Ham United team linked up in the final third after their emphatic 11-2 victory over Enfield Town on Wednesday evening.
The Towners, who play in the FA Women's National League South East Division One, were no match for the Hammers, who were clinical in front of goal throughout the contest in north London.
Claudia Walker bagged five goals, whilst Yui Hasegawa and Alex Hennessy each grabbed a brace.
Keira Flannery scored her first goal in Claret and Blue, and Lisa Evans’ cross ended up in the back of the net in fortuitous circumstances.
All in all though, it was a good workout for the Irons, who were playing in their second match of pre-season.
It’s great for the players to get more minutes into their legs.
We’ve still got the mix of senior and young players, so we’re able to spread those minutes around, with some players getting a full 90 minutes tonight.
You can only play against what’s in front of you.
If that means that we play well and score loads of goals, then that’s a good thing – it will bring confidence to the group.
We scored some really good goals tonight – Yui’s (Hasgeawa) first goal was out of this world to be honest with you. It doesn’t matter who you’re playing against, I don’t think any goalkeeper would have saved that.
And fair play to Claudia (Walker), she’s come back from pre-season looking sharp and is doing really well. I’m sure those goals tonight will really boost her confidence.
We linked up well in the attacking third
I know what Alex Hennessy can do, so it was good to see her and Claudia linking up well.
We used Lisa out wide today, and she was very dangerous with her intent to get down the line or get at the defence.
I was really pleased for Keira Flannery to get her goal – she’s a very good football who has a lot of good qualities. I could see when the ball came to her that she was going to have a go from range – and I’m really pleased that it went it.
It definitely meant a lot to her, I know what it’s like to score for the Club you support for the first time, it’s an amazing feeling and we’re all really pleased for her.
I think Enfield will have enjoyed the game despite the result
We’d like to thank them for putting the game on and giving us a good workout. I spoke to their manager after the game and they had a really young team out tonight, and I thought that they showed a lot of desire to keep going at times despite the scoreline.
There were lots of youngsters out in support of them too, and hopefully they’ve enjoyed the evening – and hopefully that might inspire a couple of the younger ones in the crowd to get involved in the sport.
West Ham United's next pre-season match will be against Hashtag United - on Wednesday 3 August at Parkside Stadium in Aveley.
