Last Word: Fornals on Southampton

Ahead of West Ham United’s Premier League fixture against Southampton, Pablo Fornals has The Last Word…

I think the international break has given us the chance to reset ahead of a busy month of football. We play nine games in April – but we are ready for the test.

Two of those matches will be in the UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-final against Gent after we got a really important result against AEK Larnaca to reach the last eight before the international break.

It’s always nice and beautiful to have a good record like I do in Europe, and it’s really good to keep adding games to my list. I’m really happy to be West Ham United’s all-time record appearance holder in Europe, but hopefully, I won’t be in this spot for too long because West Ham is playing in European football each season.

Our next European match seems a while away with three matches, against Southampton, Newcastle and Fulham – all played within six days of each other – to come before we are back playing in Europe.

Like all my teammates, I want to play, but I will wait for my chance

I obviously want to play more in the Premier League, but it is what it is. Like all my teammates, I want to play, but I will wait for my chance to play again, and when I do get the chance, I’ll make sure I am ready.

The main thing is to be together inside. If we do that, these last months of the season will be better for everyone.

Of course, at the beginning of the season, I didn’t expect things to be like this, because I am not a pessimist. But we are trying to keep the good vibes and positivity for each game, because it is the best way to keep us challenging for wins.

Football does not give you too much time to think about what happened in the last match because you have another one so soon, so that’s what we are doing, focusing on Southampton, then Newcastle, then Fulham, then Gent, and so on…

We just want to give the crowd some good moments and try to be as positive as possible and repay all the support they’re giving us. We want to continue that on Sunday.
