Manchester United v West Ham United
Premier League, Old Trafford, Sunday 30 October 2022, 4.15pm GMT

West Ham United head to the North West for the second consecutive Premier League away game, following the recent trip to Liverpool with a Sunday afternoon visit to Manchester United.

The Irons arrive at Old Trafford on the back of consecutive home victories over AFC Bournemouth (2-0) in the Premier League and Silkeborg IF (1-0) in UEFA Europa Conference League Group B.

The Hammers kicked-off the weekend tenth in the Premier League table with 14 points from 12 matches played, six points fewer than their hosts, who have also played a game less.

David Moyes' side have won six straight home matches and won eleven of the last 17 games in all competitions, and the manager now wants his team to replicate their London Stadium form on the road.

Manchester United are unbeaten in October, having beaten Everton and Tottenham Hotspur and drawn with Newcastle United and Chelsea in the Premier League and won all three matches in the UEFA Europa League.

Personnel-wise, the Red Devils made big moves in the summer, bringing in a new manager in Dutchman Erik ten Hag and signing the likes of Brazil internationals Anthony and Casemiro, Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez and Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Travel...

As is the case with so many football stadia these days, it is recommended that supporters take public transport, rather than driving to the game.

If you are taking the train up from London, take a service from Euston to Manchester Piccadilly. However, journey times on Sunday are longer than normal, with services taking well over three hours in both directions.

From Piccadilly, take the Metrolink towards Altrincham and get off at Old Trafford. From there, it is a ten-minute walk to the stadium. Alternatively, you can take a taxi, which should cost you around £10.

After the game, direct trains depart Piccadilly at 19.15 and 20.21, with the 19.35 service in between requiring a change at Stafford.

If you do opt to drive to the game, you can purchase matchday parking permits to park near Old Trafford for £12 by clicking here. Alternatively, park elsewhere and take the Metrolink to the ground.

Team News...

David Moyes is hoping Jarrod Bowen (ankle) will be available. However, and Craig Dawson (dead leg), Lucas Paquetá (upper body) and Maxwel Cornet (calf) are unlikely to be involved.

For Manchester United, Anthony Martial, Axel Tuanzebe and Raphael Varane are definitely ruled out.

Opposition...

Manchester United have won a record 20 English League titles (including a record 13 Premier League titles), 12 FA Cups, five League/EFL Cups, and a record 21 FA Community Shields.

The Red Devils have also won the European Cup/UEFA Champions League three times, and the UEFA Europa League, the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the Intercontinental Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup once each.

With a capacity of 76,000, Sunday's hosts also play in the largest club stadium in the country.

So, with such a storied history, Manchester United supporters have been left relatively short-changed in recent seasons. Indeed, the Red Devils have not won a trophy in any of the previous five seasons.

However, hopes are high that former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag can replicate the success he had in Amsterdam after being appointed in April this year.

Previous Meetings...

In truth, Manchester United has not been a happy hunting ground for West Ham United down the years.

Since winning 2-1 at Old Trafford on our first-ever visit in the old Second Division on Christmas Day 1922, West Ham have been to M16 on 77 occasions in league and cup and tasted victory just 14 times, with nine draws and 54 defeats.

That said, one of those 14 wins came last season, when Manuel Lanzini’s goal secured a 1-0 victory in the EFL Cup third round in September 2021.

Premier League-wise, our most-recent success at Old Trafford was the 1-0 victory courtesy of Carlos Tevez’s goal that completed the Great Escape in May 2007.
