Moyes: Showing we can come from behind to win was important

West Ham United made it three wins in a row by defeating Fulham 3-1 at London Stadium on Sunday and for manager David Moyes, he was particularly impressed with the character his side shown.

In his team’s two previous Premier League victories this season, they had made life easier for themselves by notching the opening goal – but not on this occasion after Andreas Pereira’s fifth minute rocket immediately had them on the back foot.

West Ham recovered from their slow start, however, levelling before the break thanks to Jarrod Bowen’s penalty and then going on to take over the game in the second period.

Gianluca Scamacca’s third goal in as many games gave us a 62nd-minute lead, before Michail Antonio rounded it off late on to complete a good day’s work in the eyes of the boss.

It was a good win because it was difficult once we went behind.

This season, we hadn’t come from behind [in the Premier League] yet, so it was important for me and a big part of what we need to do.

There will be games in which you go behind and you have to find a way out of it. Thankfully we did.

It was really important to get the goal back in the first half, and not feeling the pressure at half-time of not doing enough.

In the first half, Gianluca had a couple of chances from headers and the goalkeeper made some saves, so I didn’t think we played that badly after the first 15-20 minutes, in which we were slow and didn’t really get out of the box.

I’m really pleased for Gianluca.

For a young Italian boy to come over and be good in the Premier League is not easy. He’s beginning to show he can score different goals as well.

He had the chance which he got down and put it past the post, he had the header which the keeper made a good save from, so on the day he’s had two or three chances to score, and the one he took showed the difference from him.

The deft touch he got to get it over the goalkeeper and under the bar was a really nice finish.

Lucas Paquetá goes off as Emerson comes on against Fulham

I think it would be difficult to be a centre-forward who wouldn’t want to play around Lucas Paquetá.

On his day he is going to make you goals and chances because of the way he plays. There was some of Lucas Paquetá today that was unbelievable and there were some bits that I didn’t like.

That’s the bit which we’re all growing into and finding more about, but I thought today there was far more good than bad.

Today, he was very good in some of the things he’s done.

We’ve found our feet a little bit better now.

We’re beginning to get a little closer to what we’ve got. We still need Nayef Aguerd back and you can see the difference having Craig Dawson back. We just didn’t have those players in the opening three or four games this season.

That’s the plan, we’ve nearly got a full squad now – we beat Anderlecht in midweek and the job is to beat them again this midweek.
