IPSWICH TOWN
Pre-Season Match, Portman Road, Tuesday 12 July 2022, 7pm BST
West Ham United continue their pre-season schedule with a double-header of fixtures on Tuesday evening.
One half of David Moyes' squad will travel to Hertfordshire to face National League side Boreham Wood, while the other will head up the A12 to Suffolk to take on EFL League One team Ipswich Town.
Portman Road has been a regular destination for the Hammers in pre-season in years gone by, with David Moyes bringing his players here in 2020, when a hat-trick from Sébastien Haller and a goal from Tomáš Souček secured a 4-1 victory for the east Londoners.
Managed by former Manchester United coach Kieran McKenna, Ipswich finished the 2021/22 season strongly, losing just four of the 23 matches McKenna took charge of, keeping 13 clean sheets. Hopes are high that the Tractor Boys could challenge for promotion back to the Championship in the upcoming campaign.

How to get there…
Portman Road is a very easy ground to reach for West Ham United supporters travelling up from London and Essex.
By car, take the northbound A12. Once you reach the junction of the A12 and A14, just south of Ipswich, take the A1214 (London Road) for a couple of miles into town. As you approach the town centre, there is a Sainsbury’s supermarket on the left – at this point, go straight on past Sainsbury’s and then almost immediately right onto West End Road. Take the first left (after about half a mile) onto Sir Alf Ramsey Way and you have arrived.
There is a large NCP car park in Portman Road, right by the Away turnstiles, and other large car parks in West End Road and by Ipswich railway station.
Talking of railways, you can take the train to Tuesday's game. with direct Greater Anglia services leaving London Liverpool Street for Ipswich at 16.00, 16.02, 16.30, 17.00, 17.02 and 17.30 which should all get you to the game in time for kick-off. Direct services to London after the game depart Ipswich at 21.10, 21.44, 22.23 and 22.43.
Supporters should note that large bags will not be permitted into Portman Road and there is no left-luggage facility at the stadium.
Where to stay…
It's unlikely you'll want to stay over in Ipswich after a midweek pre-season match but, if you do, there are the usual chain options in the Waterfront area of the town, on the north bank of the River Orwell.
There are some affordable hotels near the railway station, while Ipswich also has its fair share of up-market accommodation options near the Waterfront, or you could book somewhere quirky in the surrounding Suffolk countryside.
What to do…
The designated pub for Away supporters is the Station Hotel opposite Ipswich railway station.
Aside from watching a football match, Ipswich's top attractions are Ipswich Transport Museum, the Tudor Christchurch Mansion and Park, and the recently redeveloped Ipswich Waterfront, which is overflowing with restaurants, bars and other leisure attractions.
What’s happened there before…
We've been regular visitors to Portman Road since scoring a 3-0 Second Division victory over Ipswich Town there in November 1954.
That remains our joint-biggest win at Portman Road, with John Lyall's side matching that result in the First Division in March 1984.
As mentioned in the intro, we scored a 4-1 pre-season win in Suffolk in August 2020. Prior to that, we also won 2-1 at Portman Road in 2018, when Manuel Pellegrini was in charge and Felipe Anderson and Marko Arnautović scored the goals. We also drew 0-0 at Portman Road in July 2014.
Our most-recent competitive visit was a forgettable one as Ipswich ran out 5-1 winners in the EFL Championship in January 2012.
