Tameka Yallop: Brighton clash will be a competitive contest

Tameka Yallop is looking forward to returning to Barclays FA Women’s Super League action on Sunday, as West Ham United Women welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

It will be the third time that the two sides have met this season, and the Australian international is looking forward to another competitive contest against the Seagulls.

A win against Hope Powell’s team would see the Hammers cement their place in the top six of the WSL, and that’s the aim for Yallop and her teammates.

“Brighton are a good side,” Yallop told whufc.com. “I know it’s going to be a competitive game.

“I think it's going to be a game that we will need to stay switched on for the full 90 minutes and take the opportunity to really focus on our game and what we want to achieve and the football we want to play.

"We want to finish the season as strongly as we can, and we want to get a good result on Sunday."

Yallop arrived in east London this summer and has made 14 appearances this season for Olli Harder’s side.

And the Australian has already noticed the tenacity of the West Ham United supporters who have been cheering the team on at home matches, and hope that it can continue as the season reaches its climax.

I think our league position and reaching the semi-finals highlights how much work that’s been put in since the start of the campaign

“It's been amazing to have to have them at games and singing their chants. It really does hype you up and create an awesome atmosphere.

“Since the restrictions have been lifted, it's been cool to interact with the fans and the sun's coming out too. Hopefully more and more supporters will join us for the run in, and at our semi-final match in a couple of week’s time.

It’s the second time in the past four season that the Hammers have made it into the semi-finals of the competition, going on to beat Reading in 2019 to reach the final – where they faced off against Manchester City at Wembley.

And after already eclipsing the record points that they have accumulated in a WSL season with five games to go, Yallop believes that this is just the beginning of the journey for West Ham.

“It’s amazing to be in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. It’s my first year of playing in the competition which makes it pretty special for me personally, but I’m also excited about the journey that West Ham as a cub is on.

“I think our league position and reaching the semi-finals highlights how much work that’s been put in since the start of the campaign. I think we’re making real progress as a team and hopefully this is just the beginning for this team,” Yallop concluded.

West Ham United Women take on Brighton & Hove Albion at the Chigwell Construction Stadium on Sunday 27 March 2022, with the match scheduled to kick-off at 3pm.

Tickets are available to purchase online until 9am on Sunday morning and will then be available from the ticket office at the ground from 1pm.

If you can’t make it to the match, then you can watch live on the FA Player.
