Walker: We maintained the standards against Enfield Town

Claudia Walker has started pre-season in superb goalscoring form.

The 25-year-old forward notched in the opening game against Billericay on Saturday, before scoring five and assisting three against Enfield Town on Wednesday evening.

This will be Walker’s second season with the Irons, having joined from Birmingham City in July 2021, and after lots of hard work throughout the summer, the powerful striker goal getter seems to be reaping the rewards.

“Firstly, I’d like to thank Enfield for letting us come here and get some more minutes in the legs,” the forward told whufc.com.

“I think the main thing to take from today was that we maintained the standard and that shone through throughout the game as shown by the result that we managed to achieve.

“As a forward, it’s always the aim to be creating or scoring goals – these sorts of games are a chance for me to work on things in and around the box, which is great tp have going into the season.”

Walker was industrious throughout, always offering her team-mates an out ball or causing issues for the Towners backline with her running in behind the defence.

It’s testament to Walker, who has been at Chadwell Heath throughout the summer, working hard whilst she could have been off enjoying her downtime.

“I wanted to keep busy in the off-season because I personally think that I need to kick-on after last season. I didn’t really show my full self last season, so that motivated me over the break to make the most of it and to train as much as possible.

“I want to start this year much better than I started last season and I want to get back playing the way that I know I can.”

Walker, alongside Yui Hasegawa was at the heart of all things good at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium – in particular, her partnership with young striker, Alex Hennessy yielded some good goals in the opening stages of the match.

“I think we both worked really well together,” Walker admitted.

“Maybe it was a little bit of us both having the strikers instinct, we both seemed to know where we both going to be, and it was really effortless to link up with her.

“I think the young ones have done really well overall – I’m really pleased for Keira (Flannery) to grab her first goal tonight, she’s so gassed with that! I was actually screaming at her to pass it, but then I was where it was heading and said it was brilliant!

“All of he youngsters are doing really well for us at the moment and you can see that they’re stepping it up as each day goes by.”
