Wolves v West Ham United Women - All You Need To Know

Wolves Women v West Ham United Women
Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round, New Bucks Head, Sunday 29 January 2023, 2pm GMT

West Ham United get ready to play their fourth match in 12 days when they travel to Shropshire to take on Wolves in the fourth round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

Paul Konchesky’s are looking to advance far in both cup competitions this season and having already reached the semi-final stage in the Continental Tyres League Cup, they will be hoping to achieve something similar in the FA Cup this season.

Indeed, they reached the semi-final stage of the competition last season, losing 4-1 at home to Manchester City under the stewardship of former boss, Olli Harder – so they will hope to achieve something similar, this time under Konchesky.

But before they can look longingly at the latter stages, they will need to guard against complacency as they get ready to face FA Women’s National League North outfit.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Sunday’s contest…

Team News

January signing, Amber Tysiak remains a doubt for the fixture having picked up a knock in training. She is yet to feature in Claret & Blue since making the move from Oud-Heverlee Leuven in her native Belgium.

Jess Ziu still remains unavailable for selection. The Republic of Ireland international continues her recovery from an ACL injury sustained in early October.

Emma Snerle made her first start since April 2022 against Liverpool in midweek, whilst Lucy Parker added more minutes into her legs having made her comeback from injury against Everton last weekend.

The Opposition

Wolves are certainly not to be underestimated coming into this one. Having won the National League North title last season, they failed to gain promotion after losing in the promotion play-off match against Southampton.

They didn’t let that defeat affect their form at the beginning of this season, and after eleven matches, they found themselves in familiar territory – joint-top of the division.

Daniel McNamara has been in charge at New Bucks Head since July 2018, initially taking over when the team were in the midst of a relegation battle. Things could not be more different now, with his side preparing to face off against a WSL side.

It will be a special day for McNamara, whose ambition is to see his Wolves side follow in the Hammers’ footsteps. He will also be looking forward to matching up against Konchesky, who he regularly watched back in the day when the now West Ham boss was playing for Liverpool.

His side have beaten Shrewsbury Town, Northampton Town and Newcastle in the previous three rounds to get to this stage of the competition, and combined with their league form, they pose a very real chance of causing an upset should the Irons not be at the races on Sunday afternoon.
