West Ham United Women’s international players have been busy representing their countries during the April friendly window, with a hatful of players in further action on Tuesday evening.
Mackenzie Arnold played a vital part and kept a clean sheet as Australia ended England’s 30-game unbeaten run with a 2-0 win in a friendly played at Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford.
Sam Kerr put Australia ahead with 32 minutes played, before the Chelsea striker provided an assist for Charlotte Grant whose goal 23 minutes from time clinched a resounding victory for the Matildas.
Arnold became the first goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet against England since Olivie Lukasova for the Czech Republic in October last year. Her West Ham United teammate Lucy Parker was an unused substitute for the Lionesses.
West Ham United skipper Dagny Brynjarsdóttir started as Iceland beat Switzerland 2-1 in a friendly played in Zurich.
Goals from Iceland’s captain Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir and later Sveindís Jane Jónsdóttir secured Iceland's victory, striking either side of a Switzerland equaliser at Letzigrund.
Meanwhile, Risa Shimizu started a second consecutive international fixture at right-back as Japan fell to a 1-0 defeat by Denmark in a friendly in Odense.
An own-goal from Moeka Minami proved decisive with Shimizu’s teammates Honoka Hayashi and Emma Snerle each unused substitutes for Japan and Denmark respectively.
Kirsty Smith was also an unused substitute for Scotland, who ran out 4-0 victors against Costa Rica in a friendly at Hampden Park. A brace from Emma Watson alongside a goal from Emma Weir and an own-goal from Katherine Alvarado took the Scots to a win on home turf.
Elsewhere, Viviane Asseyi and Hawa Cissoko were both unused substitutes as France beat Canada 2-1 in a friendly played at MMArena in Le Mans.
